History

Comptons Solicitors is a boutique property specialist firm which was originally formed by Stephen Compton in 1987 to deal almost exclusively with property investment, development and dealing companies.

The firm has continued to expand and undertakes high quality property work notably lease renewal and enfranchisement, residential conveyancing, property litigation and commercial property.

The firm has won/been short listed for a number of awards such as:

We have been asked on numerous occasions to contribute towards articles on this subject published in The Times, Sunday Telegraph, Evening Standard, The Independent and News on the Block.

Comptons is a member of the Association of Leasehold Enfranchisement Practitioners.

In recent years we have been involved in a number of high profile cases in the area of lease renewals and enfranchisement which have been reported not only in the legal press but also in The Times Law Reports including appeals in the Court of Appeal and House of Lords such as 9 Cornwall Crescent London Ltd v Kensington and Chelsea Royal London Borough [2005] which clarified the point that a Landlord's counter notice does not need to state a reasonable premium. More recently we acted for tenants in 5 Felix Avenue Ltd v Pledream Properties Limited [2010] which clarified that terms of acquisition have to be manifestly agreed.
